Exploring Thailand: where to go and things to do in Thailand

Thailand, which is also known as the golden land, is located in the centre of Southeast Asia. This country shares it border with Burma and Laos in the north, Cambodia in the east, Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia in the south and Andman Sea in the west. Its capital Bangkok is the largest city here and also the commercial and industrial centre of Thailand.

Thailand comprises of four regions central region, the north region, the northeast and the south. Each with its own scenic beauty and culture.

The central region is the most fertile part of this country. This part gets its daily supply of water from Chao Phraya river. This part has a number of palace and temple such as Grand Palace and Wat Phra Keo ,Wat Arun, and Wat Pho Klongs, or canals of Thonburi are best to be explored through a boat ride along the Chao Phraya river. Near Bangkok lies the famous Bridge on the river Kwai, the largest budhist monument in the world Nakhon Pathom and Pattaya resorts on the coast of the gulf of Thailand.

Chaweng Beach

The north region consists of thick forests and mountains. Chiang Mai is a beautiful town here which is known for its beautiful temples and shops where you can find some nice handicrafts made traditionally. Chiang Mai is famous for its festivals like Songkran (the old Thai New Year) in April, Winter Fair in the end of December, Loy Krathong in November and the Flower Festival in February.

The northeast region is lesser known among the tourists. This region is famous for its archaeological ruins and national parks. Few to name are Khao Yai, Phu Kadung, Phu Khieo Wildlife Preservation Zone. Mekang River is also a beautiful sight here.

The southern region is the land of beaches, limestone mountains and lush jungles. Thai beaches are among the best beaches in the world to relax. Phuket, a small island has become favourite vacation spot for families and Thailand honeymoon packages. Phang Nga Bay is a marine national park near Phuket where people come to see huge limestone mountains rising from the sea. The best place to dive in and explore the coral reefs is the Similan Island in the Andaman Sea.
