In the ancient ages, a Celtic tribe known as the Helvetia lived on the land of modern day Switzerland. In the year 1032 AD, Switzerland had become a part of the Holy Roman Empire. However, within a short period of time it was taken over by the powerful Habsburgs from Germany. The Swiss Confederation came to be formed in the year 1291AD when Rudolf the First, the leader of the Habsburgs, died. According to the Treaty of Westphalia, in the year 1648, Switzerland was now to be a neutral state. The Congress of Vienna provided Switzerland permanent neutrality in the year 1815. In 1848, a new federal constitution was brought into effect and Bern was now the capital city of the country. Through the first and the second world war, Switzerland chose to remain neutral.

Zurich is on the top of the list of places to visit in Switzerland and is situated on the bans of the Limmat River, and is known to be the cultural and intellectual capital of Switzerland. Situated on the banks of the River Rhine is the city of Geneva, a region that is home to over two hundred international organizations. One of the most enjoyable and brilliant views of the city of Geneva is possible from the ropeway journey that follows to Mont Saleve. Other attractions in the city of Geneva include the Petit Palais, Museum of Art and History, Cathedral St Pierre, Place du Bourg-de-Four, the Horology Museum, and the Museum of Old Musical Instruments.

Geneva

Lausanne is the fourth largest among the cities in Switzerland. Unfortunately, it is also the most underrated major city. It’s not as international as the city of Geneva, or as bustling as the city of Zurich, nor is it as near to the Alps as the city of Bern is. However, with over two dozen museums for a mere 150,000 population, Lausanne significantly makes its mark as an extraordinary town. If you have a fey days in the city the best way to discover the attractions for renting furnished apartments in Lausanne.

One of the most endearing and adventurous factors of this nations is the fact that it is divided into four separate parts according to the four languages spoken in the respective regions. These four regions are the French speaking, the German speaking, the Romansch speaking and the Italian speaking regions. Owing to the difference in language, there is also a different air to each of these regions and hence provide some excellent opportunity to go search for adventure.
