  1. Fort Marlborough: An old English fort which was built in the early 16th century
  1. Ciutadella: The former capital city of the island and bursting with a rich history, the old city is well worth a walk around on a sunny day. Highlight of the trip will be the Cathedral which was built in 1362 as well as the ancient windmill that now houses tourist information.
  1. Monte Toro: Whether you opt to sweat it out on a hike to the top, or take one of the easier options available, Monte Toro is a must see in Menorca. Stretching for around 5 kilometres inland, the harbour is lined on both sides with top quality restaurants, busy bars and fashionable boutiques. A great place to relax in the sun and admire the expensive yachts.
  1. Trotting races: In both Mahon and Ciutadella, traditional trotting races take place every Saturday night in the summer, keeping up a tradition that has taken place on the island for over 200 years.

Getting there

There are busses serving the beaches around the island from most of the hotel and shopping districts, although for some of the attractions you might be better off choosing one of the inexpensive taxis or car hire companies on the island. If you are staying at one of the popular hotels such as Sol Milanos Pinguinos, there is a good chance there will be organised tours going out daily to some of the islands main sights.
